One of the best things about living in New York is the fact that everything seems to happen here. Be it free last minute concerts (a la Alicia Keys) or pop up shops (a la Kylie pop up). I therefore try and take advantage of all the beauty happenings that come up in the city and the Glossier showroom was one of them!
Glossier, is a brand that has been popular for the past couple of years. Being that it is based in New York -brand creator Emily Weiss is based in New York- there has always been a huge marketing presence of Glossier in the city. One of those marketing strategies, is the glossier showroom. I’ve always wanted to try the boy brow and the Generation G lipstick and the showroom was the perfect opportunity to touch and play with all the products before buying. On that account, I popped down to the Glossier show once it open and picked up a few bits.
I ended up getting three things boy brow, the stretch concealer and the generation g lipstick which ended up being the phase 2 set and came with a sweet glossier box.
First was the boy brow.
I got it in the darkest shade (black) since I’m quite dark and I really like my brows to stand out. The brush of the boy brow is perfect! It’s so small which allows you to have a lot of control when filling in your brows. The formula of the brow gel is also pretty amazing. It stays on all day even after a workout and doesn’t get crunchy like most brow gels tend to be. I’d give the boy brow a 9/10 and would consider it very brown girl friendly as the formula is very pigmented. The only reason it’s not a 10/10 is the fact that for such a small tube, it retails for $16.
Next we have the stretch concealer.
I was surprised by how deep the sahde range went for this concealer and was able to find my perfect concealer shade in rich, the darkest shade. I went straight to this concealer as I’m in the market for a new under eye concealer and this has had a lot of hype surrounding it. I was interested in buying the soft matte concealer from NARS which has such full coverage but decided to give the Glossier version a try since at $18, it was almost half the price of the NARS concealer. The concealer comes in five shades with my shade being comparable to a MAC NW 50. I liked it in store but ultimately found it too rich and slippery for my oily skin type. I therefore unfortunately returned it and will be giving the NARS one a go. Overall rating of 7/10 since the shade range was so brown girl friendly even though I ended up returning it due to the very creamy formula.
Finally we have the generation g lipstick.
This I honestly consider a lip balm and will be referring to it as a lip balm as it doesn’t have much colour payoff in my opinion. It is however quite moisturizing and I easy to put on. It comes in six shades and I picked up JAM as it showed up the most on my lips and I really like it! It’s for those days when i absolutely don’t want to fuss with lip liners and reapplying lipstick throughout the day. I love it for the fact that I can throw it in my coat pocket to just add a hint of colour to my lips. I’ll give it a 7.5/10 since it’s moisturizing and stays in place.***If you have lips that aren’t as pigmented as mine, I feel you would really get on well with this.
Overall I found the glossier products to be quite good and the showroom to be a fun activity to do on a Saturday afternoon! The products are basic for your everyday beauty needs which is what they’re marketed as-‘Beauty products for real life’. I recommend stopping by the showroom on 123 Lafayette st to check out all the other products they have including a lot of new skin care.
Overall score of 7.5 for Glossier and 8 on the showroom.
